A DTH hammer is generally considered to be approaching the end of its service life when one or more of the following conditions are observed:

A significant increase in air consumption from the compressor, accompanied by a noticeable drop in operating pressure
Reduced impact force, resulting in weakened rock-breaking performance and lower drilling efficiency
Severe external wear, particularly when the wrench flats on the hammer connections are worn nearly smooth
